What to include so we can help in one round: your iPhone model and iOS version (Settings → General → About), the app version (shown at the top of Settings → Acknowledgements), and what you did just before the problem. If the engine behaved oddly — did not move, moved somewhere strange, took very long — open the app’s Settings and use “Send the engine log”; it attaches a diagnostic file that contains no board positions, no saved games and nothing that identifies you.

Things people ask

The opponent isn’t playing. Playing against the engine is on by default; it is a switch in Settings → “Play against the engine”. Turn it off and the app is a board for two people at one phone. If the engine is on and a move does not come, the board says so and offers “Try again”.

How strong is the opponent? It plays near your level rather than at its best, on every board size — 9×9, 13×13 and 19×19 — using a network trained on how players of different ranks actually move. It keeps a separate rank for each size and adjusts it between games from how yours go, never during a game. If it feels too strong when you are new to Go, tell it your rank in Settings and it starts gentler, then adapts from there. It never rates you and never shows a difficulty number.

What are kyu and dan? They are Go’s ranks. Kyu ranks count down as you improve — around 30 kyu is a beginner and 1 kyu is strong — and dan ranks then count up above that, 1 dan and higher, like belts. Telling the app your rank in Settings gives the opponent a gentler start when you are new; “I’d rather not say” is fine, and the opponent adapts from your games either way.

The intersections are tiny — how do I place a stone accurately? Pinch the board to zoom in on a corner and read it closely; once zoomed, drag with one finger to move around the board and tap to place a stone, then pinch back out to see the whole board. If you would like a second look before each stone is played, Settings → Confirm each stone asks for a second tap.

Where are my games? Every move is saved as it is played. Open the game menu and choose Games to see every game, finished or in progress. One game in progress is kept per board size.

The score looks wrong. The app counts area, the Chinese way: your stones on the board count as well as the empty points they surround. Many other apps count territory only. Same game, different arithmetic; the end-of-game card shows every count so you can check it.

The game says it was “not contested”. One side never really played — it passed on more than half of its turns — so there is no result to count. The game is kept and can still be reviewed.

Can I play a friend online? Not in this version. There is no network play, no account, and no online anything.
